Students are invited to join us on Mondays from 10:00am to 3:00pm for a Waldorf-inspired schedule that includes: Main Lesson, Lunch, Woodworking, and Theater.

Main Lesson Teacher: Lynlee Holloway

Main Lesson

The main lesson is the academic cornerstone of each day and is planned around a block system so that students may dive deep into a subject. This unique period gives students time for in-depth exploration of mathematics, sciences, language arts, and social studies, while utilizing main lesson books in which students record their academic and artistic reflections of learning. The teacher may use any or all of the lively arts (storytelling, drawing, painting, modeling, drama, etc.) to investigate the material and engage the students. Subjects that may be infused into your student’s main lesson time include:

  • Science (Botany I, Botany II, Geology, Astronomy, Physics)

  • History (Ancient India, Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Ancient Greece, Roman, Medieval)

  • Math (Freehand Geometry & 5th Grade Fractions, Decimal Fractions & Metric, Wonder of Number, Geometric Drawing, Business Math & Intro to Percents)

  • Geography (North America, Central and South America)

Additional activities may include:

  • Artistic Projects- There will be a focus on artistic activities that encourage the child’s natural sense of beauty and color.

  • Outdoor and Play Times- These activities will be incorporated into the day so that students have a natural balance of active play time and time to quietly focus.

Woodworking

This woodworking class aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of woodworking, including tool safety, measuring, cutting, assembling, and finishing simple projects. By the end of the course, students will have completed a small woodworking project and gained confidence in using basic hand and power tools.

Theater

In this theater course, students will be encouraged to embrace their inner performer with optimal performance opportunities, improv games, and theater history. Students will also learn what goes into the behind the scenes process of being in a performance. Students will gain confidence, as well as social and communication skills while working as a group or independently.
