Early Childhood Monday (2025-2026)

(we also welcome school-ready 4 year olds)
The early childhood Waldorf classroom is the bridge between family and school life. We believe a play-based environment is most beneficial for this age so children can develop to their fullest potential before academic work begins.

Students are invited to join us on Mondays from 10:00am to 3:00pm for a Waldorf-inspired schedule that includes: Main Lesson, Handwork, Lunch, and Gardening.

Main Lesson Teacher: Katie Locke


Main Lesson

During main lesson time, the teacher focuses on a central theme or topic, often incorporating storytelling, imaginative play, movement, art, and practical activities to engage children in a holistic learning experience. Subjects that may be infused into your student’s main lesson time include:

  • September Themes- Letters/numbers: C, D, #2, Bees & Honey, Wisdom & Age, Leaves & Apples, Dragons

  • October Themes- Letters/numbers: D, E, F, #3, Birds, Explorers & Adventures, Multicultural World, Darkness. This includes safety of darkness, what animals live in the dark, what do we do in the dark, and how to not be scared of the dark? More dark days are coming with less sunlight.

  • November Themes- Letters/numbers: G, H, #4, Peace, Helping the Poor, Family, Giving Thanks

  • December Themes- Letters/numbers: J, K, L, M, #5, Balance and Harmony, Diversity in Nature, Inner Work (Holidays: St. Nick’s Day)

  • January Themes- Letters/numbers: L, M, N #6, New Beginnings, The Moon, Lunar and Solar Calendars, Ice

  • February Themes- Letters/numbers: O, P, Q, R, #7, Candles, Love, Animals, Bountiful Life

  • March Themes- Letters/numbers: S, T, U, #8, The Wind, The Irish, Picnics, Rainbows

  • April Weekly Themes- Letters/numbers: V, W, X, #9, Jokesters and Pranks, Herbs, The Earth, Recycling

  • May Weekly Themes- Letters/numbers: Y, Z, #10, May Day – May Week – Song and Dance, Mothers & Mentors – Mothers and Children – Can also be “Grandmothers”

    or “Fathers” depending on the family status of the child, May Baskets – Gathering Nature, Mayfair Week – Celebrating May

Additional activities may include:

  • Circle Time- The teacher will lead the class through movement games, songs, and poetry recitation.

  • Artistic Projects- There will be a focus on artistic activities that encourage the child’s natural sense of beauty and color.

  • Outdoor and Play Times- These activities will be incorporated into the day.

Handwork

Students will work with an experienced handwork teacher to cultivate patience, focus and perseverance all while strengthening their fine motor skills and self-confidence. Examples of handwork include hand sewing, weaving and finger knitting.

Gardening

Gardening will not only provide students with practical, hands-on experiences that immerse students in the world of food, nature, and community, but also will serve as a powerful tool for addressing pressing issues such as climate change, public health, and social inequality. Beyond the educational value, gardening instills invaluable life lessons and offers a joyful experience for kids of all ages.
