Students are invited to join us on Fridays from 10:00am to 3:00pm for a Waldorf-inspired schedule that includes: PE, Main Lesson, Lunch and Class Play.
Main Lesson Teacher: Lauren Schneider
PE
In this class students will participate in various physical activities that promote learning through movement and play, encourages teamwork, and helps develop motor skills.
Main Lesson
The main lesson is the academic cornerstone of each day and is planned around a block system so that students may dive deep into a subject. This unique period gives students time for in-depth exploration of mathematics, sciences, language arts, and social studies, while utilizing main lesson books in which students record their academic and artistic reflections of learning. The teacher may use any or all of the lively arts (storytelling, drawing, painting, modeling, drama, etc.) to investigate the material and engage the students. Subjects that may be infused into your student’s main lesson time include:
Math (Measurement, Carrying & Borrowing, Vertical Multiplication, Intro to Fractions, Addition & Subtraction of Fractions, Long Div and Mult & Div of Fractions)
Language Arts (Norse Myths)
Geography (Local & Regional/Map Making)
Science (Zoology - Man and Animal)
History (State/Region)
Practical Skills (Farming, Clothing & Shelter)
Additional activities may include:
Artistic Projects- There will be a focus on artistic activities that encourage the child’s natural sense of beauty and color.
Outdoor and Play Times- These activities will be incorporated into the day so that students have a natural balance of active play time and time to quietly focus.
CLASS PLAY
A Waldorf class play provides a creative outlet for children to build confidence and a sense of interdependence within their class. Each week children will be utilizing storytelling, musical instruments, games, songs, and colorful scarves and costumes to tap into their imagination. This is a beautiful collaboration of the arts and a chance for children to explore their creative spirits.
