Students are invited to join us on Fridays from 10:00am to 3:00pm for a Waldorf-inspired schedule that includes: Yoga/Mindfulness, Main Lesson, Lunch, and Handwork.

YOGA/MINDFULNESS

This class begins with an alignment-based yoga practice to build strength, mobility, and body awareness. We then take those physical skills to our mental and emotional lives. We learn skills to help us regulate emotions, navigate fear, increase self-compassion and self-confidence, and strengthen our relationships.

Main Lesson

The main lesson is the academic cornerstone of each day and is planned around a block system so that students may dive deep into a subject. This unique period gives students time for in-depth exploration of mathematics, sciences, language arts, and social studies, while utilizing main lesson books in which students record their academic and artistic reflections of learning. The teacher may use any or all of the lively arts (storytelling, drawing, painting, modeling, drama, etc.) to investigate the material and engage the students. Subjects that may be infused into your student’s main lesson time include:

  • History (The Renaissance, Age of Exploration, American & French Revolution, American History: Civil War forward)

  • Science (Inorganic Chemistry, Physics, Physiology, Physics, Anatomy, Meteorology, Organic Chemistry)

  • Geography (Africa, Asia)

  • Math (Algebra & Geometry, Loci & Stereometry)

  • Language Arts (Creative Writing)

  • The Astronomers (Brahe, Galileo, Kepler, Copernicus)

Handwork

Students will work with an experienced handwork teacher to cultivate patience, focus and perseverance all while strengthening their fine motor skills and self-confidence. Examples of handwork include hand sewing, weaving and finger knitting.
